Mickey’s first year as captain he won  2nd Prize and in 1969 he won yet another 2nd Prize. It was in1970 when Mickey won a 1st Prize as captain for the theme “Sunrise Sunset”. However his health forced him to stop parading soon after and he remained active in the String Band Association until his death. Mickey was inducted into the String Band Association Hall Of Fame in 1991.

Ron Moyer was captain when the band captured its first 1st Place 1979  “Oz Odyssey”.  Ron also has two 1st Prizes as captain. The first one came in 1976 “State Fair” and the other in 1981 “And The Angels Sing”.  Ron is known for his “Signature” of removing his hat at the judge’s stand each New Year’s Day Parade waving and bowing to the crowds.  Ron is a “Hall of Fame” member and continues to be active with GKSB today.

Joe Lippincott

Captain [1987-1990]

Joe Lippincott wowed judges in 1988 taking 2nd Prize as captain while portraying Mozart, leading the band to our second 1st Place finish, “Go For Baroque”.  In 1989 Joe was injured and the role of captain fell to his co-captain. Joe promised to come back as captain, which he did in 1990 capturing another captain’s prize.  Unfortunately Joe’s employment took him out west and he had to resign his membership.

Scott Moyer

Captain [1991-2009]

Scott Moyer is our longest serving captain, over 20 years. Scott gathered a number of captain prizes including 1st Prize in 2001 for our theme “Tribe with the Vibe”, third prize in 1989 and 3 other 'Top 5' prizes.  He was the prototypical captain; wielding tools to improve the GK clubhouse; hauling lumber for parade props; running fund raisers; recruiting young members and teaching them how build the traditional mummers costumes.

Jim Tatar, Jr.

Captain [2010-]

Jim was the first Captain to perform a routine on Broad Street that saw both feet flying in the air, while wearing a large back piece!  In his first appearance as Captain, before the judges "The Czar" garnered 6th place.  Jim was born into GK, and was "involved" from infancy.  Today, he is a tireless worker; leading the band, decorating the clubhouse for special functions and prop building.
